Very nice example manufactured by C. We prefer to simply call it ‘Buls type 2’ crown. Other than the crown, there are several interesting variations on Buls’s crosses – especially the appearance of the lion in the centres. Many forms are known and we believe that crowned lions belong in the earliest period of firm’s production line.
Presence of well detailed manufacturer’s mark would likely indicate earlier vintage of the production also. This example has en exceptionally well detailed mark B with wreath beneath , struck to both, the wreath ties and the suspension eyelet. Silver hallmark also clearly impressed on the ties. This hallmark was no longer used after yet occasionally seen on later crosses since couple of other firms purchased Buls’s remaining blanks circa None of those post crosses should in theory bear the mark of the manufacturer and the lions become quite rough in appearance often very flat and featureless.
It would be safe to date this particular cross around Condition is exceptional, just a few minor chips to the tips of the cross. Beautiful patina is evident.

N-OT BOSTON (Sept. 8, ) Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Steven Giordano speaks with Sailors during an all hands call as part of his visit to USS Constitution.
However, his tour was far from the norm as he headed the Group in both the Royal Engineers and the Royal Logistic Corps. This included responsibility for the operation of one ninth of Royal Mail — plus the added difficulty of severe industrial relations issues in a couple of his areas. Ken did not shy away from the task of taking the Group from the comfort and support of Mill Hill and its postal empathy to the unknown that was Grantham, and being part of a very large TA organisation.
At the same time he had to downsize the Group, from four to three Regiments and take manning from 75 officers and soldiers to 55 and around — and improve military skills! So the change of Corps and size were not exactly popular with anyone in the Group. He was always the centre of any fun, good times, good humour or prank. Yet, he never missed a morning parade and developed a strong desire to make the TA a place where soldiers learned, became better people and had such a good time that they wanted to come back for more the next year.
His tour as Commander consolidated such changes and spread the ethos throughout 1 PC Group. So, he retired from the TA in November having thoroughly enjoyed the experience and definitely giving more than he received.

In one of the last interviews he gave before his death in , he said: I was never a Nazi. Denied the chance to stay and organise resistance by the then Queen Wilhelmina, he became head of the Dutch Royal Military Mission based in London. In a new biographical dissertation published on Monday, journalist and historian Annejet van der Zijl reveals a lot of unflattering information about this man who, even after his death, continues to inspire strong emotions. John Richardson was also present with Giordano during the call. It was when the seven-year cryptologic tech and qualified submariner was taken to mast, the Navy’s nonjudicial punishment process where a commanding officer rules on disciplinary matters. Giordano took charge on Sept. Giordano is a highly respected cryptologic operator, a career field that largely operates in the shadows, intercepting the communications of potential adversaries.
His professional record is otherwise spotless, Navy officials said. Still, his past misconduct makes him an unusual choice to become MCPON and is likely to raise questions in some quarters. By many accounts, similar missteps today would almost certainly prohibit a sailor from re-enlisting let alone advancing in the ranks. They weathered the fallout for years but separated a few months ago. His ex-wife also acknowledged the affair with Giordano.
Both agreed to share their stories on the condition of anonymity, saying the episode remains traumatic and while he worried about fraying his ongoing business ties to the Navy, she feared having to publicly relive the darkest days of her failed marriage. Share your perspective with Staff Writer Mark D. Navy leaders say they were unaware of Giordano’s nonjudicial punishment — known as an NJP — before he was selected from a host of top master chiefs, officials confirmed.
